Anxiety disorders can affect your daily life activities and may worsen if immediate treatment is not given.

Is there anything that makes you worry lately? It is completely normal to worry about things in life like your hectic schedules, rocky relationships, job interviews, and the many things our complicated life brings us. But, if the worries become too much that you may feel so choked up and that you are not in control of your life anymore, they might be symptoms of anxiety disorders.

Anxiety disorders are affecting people age 18 years and above, causing them to be filled with fear and uncertainty. It is defined as excessive anxiety and worry, happening more days than not for at least 6 months and can get worse if they are not treated. The person with anxiety disorder finds it difficult to control his/her anxiety. Anxiety disorders usually occur along with other mental or physical illnesses, including drug or alcohol abuse, to mask the symptoms or worsen them. Each anxiety disorder has different symptoms, but all the symptoms cluster around excessive, unreasonable fear and dread.

Some of the common types of anxiety disorders are separation anxiety, social anxiety or phobia, selective mutism, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PST), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and specific phobia.

Separation Anxiety is an excessive anxiety relating to separation from home or someone you are so attached with. The symptoms mostly relate to the recurrent fear of being separated from someone or something you are so attached with and accompanied by physical symptoms like nausea, stomachaches, headaches, or chest pain.

Social Anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, is diagnosed when you become overwhelmingly anxious and extremely fearful of social interactions. People with this illness have intense, persistent, and constant fear of being watched and judged, and other things that can put them in an embarrassing position. They can worry for days before the actual situation takes place and this feeling may worsen.. interfering with work, school, and other activities.

Selective mutism is the consistent failure to speak in a specific social situation where speech is anticipated inspite of be able to speak in other situations. According to research, there is a relation between social phobia and selective mutism.

OCD is an anxiety disorder where a person has recurrent and unwanted ideas or impulses (called obsessions), and an urge or compulsion to do something to relieve their discomfort caused by obsession. A person with OCD has senseless, repetitive, distressing, and sometimes harmful habits that are also difficult to overcome.

PTSD is a debilitating condition that follows a terrifying event. Usually, people with posttraumatic stress disorder have persistent frightening thoughts and memories of their ordeal and feel emotionally numb even with people they used to be so closed with. The signs and symptoms usually appear within 3 months of the tragic event.

Panic disorder has brief episodes of intense fear and is accompanied by various physical symptoms like heart palpitations, nausea, chest pain, etc., that occur repeatedly and not knowingly in the absence of external threat.

Agoraphobia is an incapacitating fear for open spaces. It is a disorder characterized by avoidance of crowds and open and public spaces. Agoraphobia can lead to extreme anxiety and evasion, resulting a sufferer to become housebound.

General anxiety disorder is characterized by diffused feelings of apprehensions with physiological symptoms. It is one of the most common anxiety disorders and is described as excessive anxiety and worry about two or more life circumstances for a period of six months.

Specific phobia is an intense fear for specific things or situations like, heights, water, closed-in places, spiders, and many others.

These anxiety disorders are curable. The sooner you are diagnosed, the sooner you’ll get better. So, if you think you have symptoms of anxiety disorders, don’t hesitate to see a doctor. Don’t let anxiety disorders ruin your life.

Performance anxiety is one of its kinds and can strike anyone at any point of time. The pressure one carries with his performance to please the audience or a definite group of people is quite phenomenal. There is a lot expected of you to perform and the thought of being jeered away off the stage can be detrimental to your performance. Sweating, losing focus and concentration as well as vigorous trembling and shaking are a few things which happen inadvertently on the stage. Even the experienced guys have the fear of performance on the big stage. Anything which persists for a long period of time can become a problem and this anxiety disorder is no different.

Performance anxieties revel in two major arenas, the symptoms of both being quite similar. If the anxiety level is pretty minimal and the concerns over the performance are just transient, it is nothing but a normal reaction to the tough circumstances and the yearning to excel. If only the symptoms are on a larger scale, it is something to worry about.

Sexual Performance Anxiety

This sort of an anxiety usually strikes men and dampen their spirits to enjoy good sexual relationships. A new partner put a pressure itself on the man or it even arises when the urge to please a partner on a long-term basis. It is studied that these occur to both young as well as old men.

Normally, sexual performance anxiety is not something that occurs too often and even if it does seem like it, it isn’t something to worry about. This kind of an anxiety is experienced by most men at some point in their lives. Professional advice might be sought if it looks like persisting and interfering.

Stage Performance Anxiety

Stage fear or the stage performance anxieties are close enough terms. This is quite a common thing which happens to people. It is either mild or quite vigorous when it happens. To some, it is just the one time and never really repeats while a few might have a problem with it every time they move to the stage. Public speakers, performers and even those meeting attendees, usually, suffer from this performance anxiety. There are a lot of stories about the experienced guys faltering on stage when it really mattered for them to get it right.

Sometimes, though, this might be a need for concern. Like sexual performance anxiety, professional help could be sought in case it persists.

Performance anxiety occurs due the fear of failure during crunch situations and most of the people encounter it sometime or the other in their lives. If the symptoms look severe, professional help will do well to anyone. One can overcome the anxiety and excel in whatever field they relish.

You know the signs, knots in your stomach, sweaty palms, clammy skin, rapid respirations…. all revolving around your having to speak before a group of people.

Perhaps it is just your office staff, or maybe you have to present a report to your co-workers.

It doesn’t matter whether the number of people you must speak before is three or 300, you still feel the same fear and anxiety.

Many of us have experienced these “jitters” or a sensation known as “butterflies” when we have had to speak in front of a group of people. Generally, our first time doing so was more than likely while we were in elementary school. Unfortunately, this fear did not stop there. It has followed us through our life. It has accompanied us throughout our entire education right into the job market. It even has an official title these days, if you will, and is more commonly known as the fear of public speaking.

For some, speaking in front of others can present a huge problem. They may experience various levels of discomfort ranging in intensity from butterflies in the stomach to full blown panic.

Thanks to a wonderful new technique known as EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques, no one need suffer any such negative emotion such as the fear of public speaking. EFT was developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford Engineering graduate and ordained minister. It is based on the ancient practice of acupuncture however, instead of using needles to activate the acupressure meridians, they are activated using gentle pressure or tapping.

EFT is an experimental technique that has shown great results. It is beginning to be used by therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and various medical doctors around the world as part of their treatment plans. However, EFT should not be used instead of the conventional treatment you may already be receiving. If you are currently under a doctor’s care, let them know you are interested in adding EFT to your treatment regimen and get their advice before going ahead on your own.

Gary Craig understood that the cause of all negative emotions was due to a disruption in the body’s energy system. Thus, by correcting this disruption, EFT allows you to be free from fears, phobias, anxieties, self-limiting beliefs, etc., easily and painlessly.

EFT is easy to learn and can be used to treat a variety of issues. I have been using EFT on myself as well as with my coaching clients for quite some time and have yet to come across an issue that it has not worked on.

When using EFT for a specified issue such as the fear of public speaking, one of the key elements is to zero in on the emotions or feelings the person associates with this issue. For instance, they may state they have the fear of being laughed at or of losing their train of thought. By tuning into these specific emotions and addressing them one by one, the discomfort the person feels surrounding the issue of public speaking is generally greatly reduced after just a few rounds of tapping. Often these feelings are totally gone after just one session of EFT.

I am an EFT practitioner with the designation of EFT-ADV, having received my advanced certificate of completion after passing the advanced EFT examination. As an EFT practitioner, I work with my coaching clients, instructing them on how to effectively use EFT in as little as one to three sessions.
